At a significant health symposium in Monrovia, Liberia’s community health workers were praised for the crucial role they played in the country’s health sector. The 3rd International Community Health Worker (CHW) Symposium is being held in Monrovia, Liberia, and is being attended by attendees from 46 African nations. Health professionals from Liberia were hailed as heroic healthcare workers at the symposium. They have won praise for playing a crucial role in ensuring that Liberia has a quick, improved, and high-quality healthcare system.
Liberian President George Manneh Weah urged healthcare professionals to go above and beyond in a virtual speech. In addition to reiterating his government’s commitment to enhancing and extending access to high-quality healthcare delivery nationwide, Mr. Weah emphasized the significance of the medical field. President Weah acknowledged the difficulties the nation’s health sector, particularly in rural areas, faces in meeting basic medical needs.
However, he claimed that his administration had made enormous strides in preventing disease and reducing mortality over the years. “As you may know, in the last few years, we have managed to increase our coverage through the training and recruitment of health workers, as well as ensuring the accessibility of health care services,” he said. The Liberian health sector has faced numerous shocks over the years, but Mr. Weah acknowledged that the sector has remained resilient. He urged health professionals to maintain this momentum for the nation as a result.
“There still remain a lot of challenges that require collective action to overcome,” President Weah said. “It is, therefore, my expectation that this 3rd International Community Health Worker Symposium will ponder over how all stakeholders can work together in achieving success.”
The symposium, which got underway on March 22, 2023, aims to bring people together and discuss strategies for growing healthcare services to accommodate the needs of the vulnerable population. The Government of Liberia’s (GOL) efforts to achieve universal health coverage were greatly aided by the community health workers, who received praise from the country’s health minister, Dr. Wilhelmina Jallah.
